Description
Design
The HL-L2370DWs dark grey color is a nice change of pace from the usual off-white color of most printers. It’s also pleasingly shaped with rounded corners. Its design is the definition of simplicity. It’s small (14-inch x 14.2) inch footprint allows it to be placed almost anywhere without taking up too much precious desk space.
On top is a one-line monochrome display with a small group of function buttons to be used for setup and maintenance. The single main tray can accommodate up to 250 sheets of paper. There’s also a single sheet multifunction tray that comes in handy for printing things like envelopes, card stock, and labels. In the back, you’ll find the USB and Ethernet ports.
Features
The HL-L2370DW provides all the connectivity options you need. You can connect directly to your PC or laptop with USB, print from a smartphone or tablet using WiFi Direct and of course, there is also WiFi. It’s surprising to find an Ethernet such a low-cost printer as well. In addition to standard connection methods, it supports Google Cloud Print, AirPrint for iOS devices, and of course Brothers iPrint&Scan app.
The Brother handles, standard letter, legal, Executive, A4, A5, A, B5, and B6 paper, and of course, there is the additional manual feed for envelopes and labels. Resolution is 2400 x 600 dpi with is quite high for a printer in this class. It rated at 36ppm and a single toner cartridge can print up to 3,000 sheets depending on the complexity of your print jobs.
Performance
During testing the HL-L2370DW fell just short of its 36ppm rating but was still the fastest printer in this class. Output quality was excellent in terms of both text and graphics. This is no photo quality printer so the results you get from photos and high definition graphics may be disappointing.
This printer shines when it comes to text, charts, graphs, and graphics that are not overly-detailed. It handles grayscale images quite well as gradients in shading are barely visible. The HL-L2370DW also has a reputation for reliability and almost never jamming.
Setup
When setting up this printer it’s best to have your WiFi network name and passphrase handy. The setup process is a “simple” matter of manually pressing the keys and following the onboard display through the menus to find the wireless setup section. It’s a little tedious but it can be done. Once the settings are entered they should remain even after the printer is power cycled.
Ethernet and USB setup aren’t nearly so bad as WiFi. Windows 10 should automatically recognize the printer and install the proper drivers. It’s known as “Plug and Play.” It only took Microsoft 20 years to master but they finally got it right.
Conclusion
Sometimes you just want to print. The Brother HL-L2370 allows you to do just that quickly, reliably, and economically. It’s not out to impress you with a lot of bells and whistles. It’s just there for you – when you want to print. Ethernet connectivity and auto-duplex are pleasant surprises for a laser printer in this price range. The XL version of the HL-L2370DW is ninety bucks more but that extra price includes nearly 200 bucks worth of toner. A gift from Brother to show they love their customers and hope the HL-L2370DW will be the last printer you’ll ever buy.
